Puerto Escondido has long been known as a world-class surf destination. Come learn to surf from a native of Puerto, whose family has lived here for generations. Julio Soto Noyola will be your instructor and guide.
Known for his big smile and infectious laughter Julio infuses each surf lesson with his good-natured charm. His goal is to provide safe and fun surf lessons for beginner-intermediate surfers of all ages. He has many years of experience as a surf instructor and has taught students both here in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca and in Sayulita, Nayarit. He uses boards that are specifically designed for beginner surfers with a softer surface material and flexible fins for safety.
When the waves are small, you may see him out on a longboard teaching his nieces ages 2 and 4 to surf, or practicing his long-board acrobatics catching waves on his head.
When he is not surfing, Julio can be found working on designs for new paintings, t-shirts, or tattoos. Painting surfboards started out as a way to spruce up old or broken boards surfers would leave behind on their trips. Eventually, word got out and many local surfers began requesting his designs on their boards. A few have even gotten tattoos of drawings he has created.
He has painted murals for a variety of clients including Fish Taco and Beer in Zicatela, private homes, and currently is working on a project with the Lifeguard Association to paint one of the local lifeguard towers. Julio is also commissioned frequently to design the beautiful covers of Viva Puerto Magazine.
